These products answer different questions
Google Analytics is strong for web measurement and the Google ecosystem. PostHog combines product analytics with tools such as replay, feature flags, and experiments. Pick the workflow first, then compare the bill.
- Consent, identity, retention, and data deletion rules
- Events, naming, properties, and historical continuity
- Marketing attribution, product usage, funnels, and experiments
- Exports, warehouse access, dashboards, and analyst workflows
- Who can see the interface and who can use the API
Privacy is a design choice
PostHog is not automatically private and Google Analytics is not automatically unsafe. Region, configuration, consent, identifiers, retention, access, and export paths matter. If the interface is private but the collection endpoint is public, secure the endpoint and limit what it accepts.
Recommended next step
Run both systems in parallel for one reporting cycle. Compare decisions made from the data, not only event counts and dashboard appearance.
Read the caveat
PostHog pricing, product limits, Google limits, and privacy outcomes depend on the plan and configuration you choose. Verify current terms before procurement.
